Getting started
What is Thornreach?
A free, browser-based multiplayer game set in a spooky town. You pick a class, spawn into a shared world with whoever else is online, and explore together — cast spells, chat, take on quests, poke the wildlife, trade at the auction house, raid a weekly dungeon, and band into covens.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Thornreach runs right in your web browser — just open the site and play. There's nothing to install.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free to play. There are a few optional purchases (a Town Pass, cosmetics, coven charters) that help support the game, but nothing you buy makes you stronger in a fight — see Moonstones & cosmetics.
Do I need an account?
No — you can jump in as a guest and start playing in seconds. Making an account (just a username and password) saves your character, level, gold and unlocks so you can pick up where you left off, on any device.
When does it launch?
Thornreach opens on Halloween — October 31, 2026. You can play right now in the lead-up; expect things to keep improving through launch.
Playing the game
What are the classes?
Six, each with its own look and abilities: the Witch, the Werewolf, the Mystic, the Knight, the Wanderer, and the Lich. You can preview each one's abilities on the class pages linked from the home page before you choose.
What is there to do?
- Quests & story — talk to the townsfolk; each class has its own campaign.
- The Weekly Delve — a rotating dungeon to clear solo or with a party.
- The Auction House — inside the Bank; list and bid on items with gold or Moonstones.
- Covens — player guilds; band together, climb the standings, and talk by voice.
- The Wilds & the Ember Wastes — open areas beyond town, including an opt-in PvP zone.
- Seasonal events — the town shifts with the calendar, especially around the full moon.
Is there PvP? Can other players attack me?
The town is safe — no one can harm you there. PvP is entirely opt-in: you only risk a fight if you step into the Ember Wastes (an open-PvP zone, with a safe haven at its entrance) or accept a duel challenge from another player.
How do covens work?
A coven is a player guild. Found or join one to team up, hold the longest night together, compete on the coven standings, and use live voice chat with your covenmates.
Controls & finding your way
How do I move and interact?
- WASD or the arrow keys — move
- Q / E — strafe · Space — jump
- F — interact (talk, enter a building, use a portal)
- Click — strike / cast at what's under your cursor
- M — open the map · Esc (or `) — the menu
- C — push-to-talk for coven voice
On a phone or tablet, the same actions are on-screen touch controls.
I can't find the bank / auctioneer / a quest-giver — where is everything?
Press M for the town map. It marks every building and what's inside (the Banker and Auctioneer are in the Bank), plus the Midnight Peddler, the Locksmith, the Town Board, and the quest-giving townsfolk. The map also covers the Wilds and the Ember Wastes once you're in those areas.
How do I change how my character looks?
Open the menu and choose Wardrobe. You can change your weapon look, toggle headwear and capes, and dye your outfit and accent colors. It's pure style — none of it changes your stats.
Accounts & progress
How do I save my progress?
Create an account from the start screen or your profile — a username and password is all it takes. An email is optional and only used to recover a lost password.
Can I play on my phone and my computer with the same account?
Yes. Log in with the same account anywhere and your character and progress follow you.
I forgot my password.
If you added an email to your account, use the password-reset link. Without an email on file there's no way to recover the account, so adding one is worth it.
Can I delete my account?
Yes — anytime, yourself. Open your profile, scroll to "Delete account," and confirm. It removes your account and the data tied to it right away. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
Moonstones, passes & cosmetics
Is it pay-to-win?
No. Everything you can buy is cosmetic or convenience — it never makes you hit harder or level faster in a way that affects other players. Gear and power come from playing.
What are Moonstones?
A premium currency used mainly for cosmetics (like certain wardrobe looks and dyes) and a few optional unlocks. Some cosmetics you earn through play; others can be bought with Moonstones.
What's the Town Pass?
An optional pass that opens a couple of extra town venues — the Phantom Parlor and the Starlight Arcade — for a stretch of time. Purely optional fun.
Is in-game gold real money?
No. Gold is in-game only — it has no cash value and can't be cashed out. Real-money purchases are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your card details.
Safety & privacy
Is there an age requirement?
Yes — Thornreach is for players 18 and older. You confirm your age when you register.
Does the game use my camera or microphone?
Only for a few optional features (the witch's selfie, the werewolf's howl, the mystic's third eye), and always after you tap a consent prompt for that one use. Skip those features and nothing is ever captured. Coven voice chat is peer-to-peer and not recorded. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
How is my data handled?
We collect as little as possible, use no ad trackers or third-party analytics, and never sell your data. The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what's kept and why.
Someone's harassing me, or I found a bug.
For bugs, use the in-game 🐛 Report a Bug option in the menu — it sends us what you were doing along with your report. For player behavior, use the in-game report tools on the offending player. Serious safety concerns can also go to [email protected].
Technical & troubleshooting
Which browsers work?
Any modern, up-to-date browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — on desktop or mobile. The game uses 3D graphics, so a recent browser and device give the smoothest experience.
The game is slow or won't load.
Give it a moment on first load — the world streams in piece by piece. If it stalls, refresh the page, make sure your browser is up to date, and close other heavy tabs. On older phones, lowering the graphics setting in the menu helps.
Is my progress stored on my device?
Your account and progress live on our server, so they're safe across devices. Your browser only keeps a small login token so you stay signed in.
Still stuck?
Didn't find your answer? The fastest line to us is the in-game 🐛 Report a Bug button — it reaches the team directly. For anything about your data or account, email [email protected].
